Block Party: contemporary craft inspired by the art of the tailor

Sheffield Institute of Arts, Sheffield
9 November – 17 December 2012

The Crafts Council’s touring exhibition Block Party, curated by visual artist Lucy Orta, celebrates the skill of the pattern cutter and tailor, and explores the creative possibilities of this craft.

Presenting contemporary works by UK and international artists, Block Party continues its tour to Sheffield Institute of Arts, Sheffield.

The process of transforming the flat pattern block into three dimensional form is an enduring source of inspiration. The rich cultural heritage and evocative language of pattern cutting has stimulated a broad range of contemporary applications.

Artists include Shelley Fox, Charlotte Hodes, Dai Rees, Yinka Shonibare MBE, and Raw Edge
