General Information
The British Glass Biennale is the foremost exhibition of excellence in contemporary glass by artists, designers and craftspeople currently working in Britain. Taking place every two years it is a highlight of the International Festival of Glass and with its growing international status, attracts top collectors and enthusiasts from around the world.
The 2010 exhibition will showcase work by 62 artists chosen from juried open submissions and 19 invited established artists – Colin Reid, Alison Kinnaird, Keith Cummings, Rachael Woodman, Bob Crooks, Ronald Pennell, Pauline Solven, Steven Newell, Angela Jarman, Keiko Mukaide, Max Jacquard, Matthew Durran, Richard Jackson, Catherine Hough, Peter Layton, Angela Thwaites, Keith Brocklehurst, Katharine Coleman and Carl Nordbruch.
In total there will be 115 pieces of work on display making this a significant statement of national glass talent and presenting a more complete representation of British Glass at this time.
As well as being an exhibition of excellence it is also an exhibition of recognition. The British Glass Biennale is delighted to be offering 5 prizes, totalling £10,500, in association with the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers. New this year is The Art in Action Award for Contemporary Glass worth an additional £1000.
Visitors will, as usual, be astonished by the versatility of the medium and the inventiveness of highly talented artists. They are working in: blown, cast and kiln-formed glass; mixed media installations; engraving; laser-cutting; neon lighting; glass painting and sculpture. Everything from a seemingly simple vessel to an expressive statement about the world is on display. All work is for sale.
