General Information

Unsurprising, the Cornwall Design Fair, receives many enquiries from would-be exhibitors from outside of the county and in reaction to the demand, this year sees the fair welcome a small select group of designers from further afield. Sheffield based silversmith, Brett Payne, designs and produces original Sterling and Britannia silver cookware, cutlery and candlesticks. Brett exhibits his work all over the world but is drawn to the Cornwall Design Fair both for its unique setting and for the quality of work it attracts.

‘This is one of the best places to exhibit contemporary silverware outside of London. The quality of work you find here is quite outstanding – you won’t see better anywhere else. It’s great to see local makers exhibiting alongside the best from around the country’ Brett Payne.

The Cornwall Design Fair is also the place to come to discover new talent. This year there will be a focus on six up-and-coming Cornish designers as well as a series of site art installations by students from the Penwith College in Penzance.

Building on the unprecedented success of the 2012 edition, which saw visitor numbers exceeding 4,000 – despite the unseasonal rain, the Cornwall Design Fair 2013 will be bigger. A carefully-vetted selection of creative workshops, design-led activities for children, a courtyard café, live entertainment, demonstrations will provide a full-day of entertainment for design lovers and their families.

Visitors shouldn’t miss the Curated at Trereife exhibition, held inside Trereife House, which features a select group of designer-makers, who together create a harmonious mix of contemporary design within the classic historic setting. The resulting installations always prove to be a stand-out feature of the show.

Another highlight of the fair will be the world-famous Leach Pottery, who will be hosting a marquee with workshops and demonstrations of their unique techniques, offering an insight into the past, present and future of ceramics in Cornwall. The Penlee Gallery and the Exchange Gallery in Penzance will be joining together to bring a number of workshops and activities to visitors of the Cornwall Design Fair, as the climax of Art Week.

This three-day event truly offers something for everybody, whether visiting for business, pleasure, inspiration of just inquisitiveness.
