Make/ Craft Lab at Origin 2008/ Thursday 9th October 2008
General Information
For this Craft Lab they are interested in the celebration of a process that is both industrial and handmade and will attempt to create an experimental ‘domestic dip coating’ laboratory. Their intention is to bring dip coating to the masses!
Dip coating is well known as a mass manufacturing process that is carried out in industrial units behind closed doors. The intention is to demystify this process and bring it to a hand made environment by taking an industrial process to a hand-made environment to question and test established ideas of what makes an object precious.
Through the lab the hidden element of the craftsperson is brought to the forefront staged and transparent, visitors will learn and engage in a fun and enjoyable way that is not primarily focused on the point of sale but the playful making.
Join Fabiane Perrella and Karen Richmond for an evening of experimental participation. Visitors are invited to join a ‘dip coating’ test laboratory where structures are transformed by dipping them in a multitude of colourful high-gloss liquids. This merging of craft environment with industrial process questions what makes a precious object, and what hand-made really means.
This investigation will require your participation, so come along, play and explore this colourful twist on the process of dip coating.
Unveil and dispel myths around making.
