General Information

Speakers for the day will be:

Rajesh Gogna, Anna Lorenz and Miranda Sharpe were all mentees on the DMWM ‘Future Forward’ mentoring programme. The three selected mid-career designer makers were supported by mentors to engage in critical discussion, to develop new work and access new market opportunities. Metalsmiths Rajesh and Anna and jeweller Miranda, will be talking about their experiences of the programme, the benefits and how it has influenced their practices.

Tracey Rowledge creates books and wall pieces that explore the line between spontaneity and the deliberately crafted. In 2008 Tracey joined Cape Farewell an expedition visiting the Disko Bay area of West Greenland. The journey was created to instigate a cultural response to climate change and bring together leading artists, writers, scientists, educators and media for a series of expeditions to hot spots of climate change. Three years on Tracey will be reflecting on the expedition and how it has impacted on her practice.

Furniture designer and maker David Gates will be speaking about collaborative working within and across disciplines. This will include his experiences of the Pairings 2010 project, where he worked with Alice Kettle and Jane Webb to explore and engage in each other’s practices, sharing ways of working and exchanging ideas and processes. David is regularly involved in open-ended inter-disciplinary research projects with other practitioners centred on ideas of communication and the notion of making.
