Sustainability in Craft Practice
We are delighted to welcome a panel of makers and craft professionals, chaired by Izzy McDonald-Booth, Craft and Design Curator and Buyer at the National Glass Centre, to the next regional CraftNet event. Rosy Greenlees, Executive Director, Crafts Council will present briefing notes on sustainability, and the panel will explore key questions around sustainability in craft making including craft practice in the face of rising energy and material costs and growing environmental concerns – with specific reference to glass and ceramics; upcycling as a way of instilling new life and value into existing or disposable objects and materials, and the ethics of producing more objects in an already saturated world.
Speakers announced:
Anne Tye, Manager, Cohesion
Catherine Bertola, Artist
Cathy Newbery, Public Art Consultant & Curator
Matt Durran, Artist
There will be time to see the National Glass Centre and to network with people across the North East with an interest in public engagement with contemporary craft.
