See/ Made in Dorset/ 13 August to 13 September 2008
General Information
The exhibition features over forty creative businesses featuring well-known names and some inventive new discoveries, selected by arts marketing consultant Ros Fry and artist Lal Hitchcock.
There is also a ‘Dorset Kitchen’ offering a delicious array of local food selected by Washing Pool Farm.
The event is sponsored by Creative Dorset, a company set up to provide support to creative industries in the county. Director Dominic Tambling said: “Dorset has become a fertile place for creative businesses. Creative Dorset have the largest open studio event in Britain and more and more people are moving here.
“The whole county is home to artists, producers, bakers, woodworkers and sculptors creating quality products for this show. Bridport, branded by the Daily Telegraph as ‘Notting Hill on sea’, has become highly attractive to food and arts lovers and is a vibrant artistic centre to hold this event.
“We will be avoiding the conventional, pot-on-a-plinth approach for arts and crafts in favour of creative real room environments inside the spacious gallery. Visitors will also be able to take products away on the day, rather than wait for the end of the show. We want to make it as easy and as pleasurable as possible to buy, try and enjoy everything Made in Dorset.”
Ros Fry and Lal Hitchcock offer free guided tours at 11am on Wednesday 27 August and Wednesday 3 September. There is a full programme of public demonstrations by makers which can be seen on the Creative Dorset website.
