Winner of The Thomas Lyte Modern Heritage Award announced

Thomas Lyte, the new English luxury brand joined forces with the Crafts Council to launch The Thomas Lyte Modern Heritage Award – a new national craft competition to search for new talent in contemporary craft.

The award aimed specifically at makers who are at the beginning of their career, from new graduates to emerging makers up to three years working professionally in the UK was announced last night at the Origin Gala.

The award was open to makers in the following disciplines:

- Silver and Fine metals – Glass – Wood – Leather

With almost 200 entries the standard of applications to the award was extremely high and the judging panel had a very difficult task.

The winner of The Thomas Lyte Modern Heritage Award was awarded to James Maclachlan for quality functional craftsmanship. Thomas Lyte will commission the winner, James Maclachlan’s “Splatter” piece and cash prizes were awarded to runners up; Sian Mathews and Louise Chesshire.
