See/ TALENTE 2009/ 11-17 March 2009

General Information

In existence since 1980 and held annually as part of the International Trade Fair for the Skilled Trades in Munich, Germany; Talente is one of Europe’s most prestigious showcases for emerging talent in the areas of design and technology and craft.

Makers are encouraged to apply for this prestigious competition, which reflects high quality talent put forward via a network of mentors from all over the world. In 2008 Talente selected 99 exhibitors from 23 countries (330 applications received from 30 countries).

In the UK, mentors Tina Rose from Craft Scotland and Norman Cherry from the Lincoln University together with the Crafts Council, have had eleven makers selected from the UK to exhibit at the forthcoming 2009 Talente exhibition.

Participants showcased are selected by a European jury and are of a high standard reflecting the ideas of young people with an experimental approach to materials and craft techniques, it offers a European platform enabling new makers to launch their creative careers to the wider European market.

The International Trade Fair is also home to Schmuck; the forum for contemporary jewellery which enjoys an international reputation and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2009, Exempla; a showcase of around 25 international contributors demonstrating live workshops and Meister der Moderne; a presentation of the very best in contemporary craft and design, from around the world.

Taking part:

Criteria for participation:

- Participants must be able to provide between one to eight pieces, all created within the last two years, for exhibition (depending on scale) – Applications must be made with an existing body of work which is photographed and ready for display. Full details of the intended exhibits must be listed in the application form and are then used in the catalogue if successful. – Applicants be under 30 on the 1 March 2009. – Applicants must have trained at an art college and have completed their full time education, postgraduate included.
The Crafts Council works with Talente to administer the shipping of all UK exhibitors work to and from Munich, as well as offering guidance to those exhibitors wishing to visit the event.

Ticketing Information

Admission fees (2009): Day ticket (single entry) 11,50 €

Reduced day ticket (single entry) via advance booking offices and at ticket counters: for senior citizens, pensioners and recipients of state benefits, for severely handicapped people (one accompanying person is free if specified in the authorisation card), on presentation of the authorisation card at ticket counters:

- for groups of 15 people and more

- for holders of easy living card, on presentation of the authorisation card

- for members of BR1 Radio Club, on presentation of the authorisation card

- on proof of craft trade membership

- for conscripts to military and civilian service, on presentation of the authorisation card

- on submission of a reduction voucher 9,50 €


Pupil/student ticket

- for pupils (7 years and above), trainees and students, on presentation of the authorisation card

- for groups of 10 pupils and more, one teacher free for every 10 paid tickets

- children up to 7 years are free 5,50 €




Afternoon ticket (single entry) available at ticket counters only

- valid every day from 2.00 pm 7,00 €
