Crafts Council Annual Report 2014/15 - page 8

Artistic excellence is a thread that runs through everything the
Crafts Council produces and this year was no exception. Our
exhibitions feature ground-breaking and exceptional works by
artists and makers, united by strong curatorial vision. COLLECT
brings together the finest craft galleries and artists from across
the globe, showcasing a breadth of talent in a festival of making.
We curated outstanding exhibitions that travelled across the country
from Plymouth to Sunderland. Pieces from the Crafts Council’s
extraordinary Collection were loaned out to a wide variety of
galleries, museums and exhibitions, from the Aberystwyth Arts
Centre to the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston. We also
promoted British craft abroad, taking a hand-picked selection of
makers to Design Days Dubai.
Meanwhile two of the organisation’s longstanding brands, COLLECT
and Crafts magazine, continued to go from strength to strength – the
latter celebrating its 250th edition with a sell-out issue that charted
the Fifty Moments that Changed Craft.
In total over the past 12 months an estimated 1.3 million people
visited one of the 40 shows and exhibitions the organisation was
involved in, a remarkable statistic that means more people than
ever will have been introduced to the importance of making.
