Digital storytelling

Hundreds of archive items from the Crafts Council Collection are going online this year

Sketchbooks, drawings, photos and letters never before shown will be part of a digital project for which the Crafts Council has just received Heritage Lottery Funding.

The Crafts Council Collection was started in 1972 and now has over 1600 objects and thousands of items of archive material relating to those objects.

The First Decade Project is the first step in digitising this archive so that it is available to everyone. The project will focus on 100 objects acquired in the first decade of the Collection (1972 to 1982) and create a digital story for each. It will present existing material alongside new oral testimonies and photography to provide a richer understanding of a unique and significant national collection.

The First Decade Project will go live in February 2016.
