Jacky Oliver's work draws from both contemporary and historic narratives, sourced from rigorous research. She brings a variety of metal techniques and processes together, interrogating materials to create artefacts, which stimulate viewers to consider and reflect.
Her work initiated from her experience of growing up in a family trade of greengrocers, with an appreciation of the importance of seasonal produce. The artwork looks at the provenance of the fruit and vegetables we eat, current environmental challenges, key information about the carbon footprint of the production, transportation and consumption of this fresh produce. Field to Fork uses a linear steel structure suggesting field and allotment plots and panels with collages of statistics, maps and graphs, etched, enamelled and pierced on and through their surfaces to create shadows conveying the ephemeral delicacy of the subject.
