Jan Hendzel

Jan Hendzel trained as an apprentice patternmaker engineer and woodworker, and went on to study product design at Saint Martins. He has made furniture for the last 10 years and now runs a studio in Woolwich.

His current work celebrates the internal structures of timber. Merging digital manufacture with the hand crafted, he produces textures and shapes by machine then inlays them by hand. He collects London’s reclaimed materials that have a patina of wear and tear that has built up over years of use - a display of a life well lived. Using them as a decorative element is a wonderful way of continuing their life.

Keen to find innovative ways to incorporate making in his life, Hendzel has taught woodwork and developed several community events.
