Dr Karen Ingham

Karen Ingham's primary art forms are lens-based arts, digital media and design, and surface pattern design and textiles

Her approach is interdisciplinary and she often works site-specifically. She is internationally exhibited and recent venues include SCANZ New Zealand, Casa de Cultura Brazil, Anglia Ruskin Digital Gallery Cambridge, Somerset House London and FACT Liverpool. She also writes and has several publications in distribution.

Karen was born in England and raised in the United States. She returned to England to study fine and lens-based arts and is a graduate of Nottingham Trent. She lives in Wales where she gained an MPhil with the University of Wales in 2001 and a PhD in 2006 with research into historical and contemporary art and science collaborations in the anatomical theatre. She divides her time between her studio practice and working as a Professor of Art, Science and Technology interactions at University of Wales Trinity St. David-Swansea.

Recent projects include Hybrid Lives Co-Working Space, (2013-14) FACT Liverpool, with the RCA Helen Hamlyn Research Centre and the AHRC Creative Exchange; Wonder Chamber (2012) exhibition and publication with Ffotogallery Cardiff, and Pollinator Frocks (2010-2011) a global design project around issues of pollination and biodiversity with Wales Arts International, Swansea University Engineering, New Zealand Arts Council, and SCANZ 2011 New Zealand. Current projects include: ‘Brain Architectures’ and ‘Facescapes’, a hybrid anatomical-architectural research and design project with the Masters Architecture Department at the RCA and the School of Anatomy at KCL with support from the Department of Cognitive Psychology at Swansea University.

Karen is a member of the Welsh Institute for Research in Art and Design and her work is in several collections including The British Film Institute, The Wellcome Collection, London, Lux Centre, London and Millennium Images London.
