Join us online on 15 October at 6pm as Zarina Muhammad and Gabrielle de la Puente, the art critics behind the irreverent blog The White Pube, discuss their new book Poor Artists.
At time when working as a professional artist is an increasingly unattainable luxury, why do so many people try anyway? The duo will speak to Crafts about this very question, and tell us more about their first book – which ridicules a contemporary art world that has turned art into artworks, art schools into art universities, and creative expression into cut-throat competition.
Through a mix of storytelling and anonymous interviews with real people, the book explores the story of an aspiring artist who embarks on a journey into the creative industry, where she must decide whether she cares more about success or staying true to herself.
Muhammad (who interviewed Turner prize nominee Delaine Le Bas for the upcoming issue of Crafts) and De la Puente have earned themselves an international cult following since they started the White Pube in 2015, provocative art reviews and essays online that challenge the art establishment. Poor Artists is their first book.
