Vanitas - A globe of contemplation
Vanitas paintings flourished in the Netherlands in the early 17th century. With a central theme of ‘Memento Mori’ each contained collections of symbolic objects.
My project was to recreate a Vanitas for a globe where the viewer can perpetually observe the symbols.
Symbols representing the arts and sciences, wealth and power, hope, earthly pleasures, self-reflection,curiosity, knowledge, the transience time, fragility are all represented on the globes.
