Beate Gegenwart engages with ideas of place and identity, dislocation and belonging, migration, transition, flux, language, movement, the small wearable and architectural space. She is used to forever crossing, from one country to the other, from one language to the other.
Her principal medium is enamel on steel, a thin layer of glass fired onto metal. She makes wall pieces on a variety of scales. In addition she creates intricate 3D printed forms and artists books.
