About this project

St Catherine was woven for an exhibition at Ripon Cathedral & a response to the phenomenon of young women standing up to authority today just as they did nearly two millennia ago. Catherine was often depicted in medieval tapestries, here the bird brings the flogged and imprisoned Catherine food and the angel tends to her wounds as the queen comes across the scene and converts, for which her paps are removed as foreshadowed in the placing of her hand and, like Catherine was beheaded. 1.80msq
