Inside Atacama

About this project

Desolate landscapes have always held a fascination for me and the Atacama Desert is a stunning example of a true wilderness.  I have just started a new body of work based on the texts and colours of this landscape, using cloth, raw earth pigments (some collected on site) and thread.  My aim is to translate the Atacama in an abstract manner whilst also trying to convey how I feel whilst in these remote places.

I've been spending time working with the raw earth pigments, rubbing them directly in to the cloth and binding them on with acrylic medium and water. Good potential here.
