Hand-woven hangings - landscapes

About this project

This collection of wall art is inspired by the environment. Each original hand-woven piece derives from first-hand drawing and textural mark-making. It has its own story in a landscape. The artwork is translated into digital files and is carefully hand-woven on a jacquard loom in a mixture of sustainably sourced yarns, chosen for their colour and inherent fibre properties.  Fiona is happy to discuss commission ideas and visit new locations.

Rough Tor, red
Photographer: Fiona J Sperryn
This dramatic piece was inspired by the weathered rocks up on Bodmin Moor. Original drawings were made in situ on a fresh winter's day. The tapestry-style hanging is hand-woven in fine yarns with a lustre and a hint of sparkle. It measures 69cm wide and 58cm long.
Rough Tor, May
Photographer: Fiona J Sperryn
Original drawings were made high on Bodmin Moor on a fresh February day. Textures were taken from the rocks of the tor itself and the lines represent the outlines of these solid granite boulders. The hanging is hand-woven in fine fibres including silk, shiny lurex and cotton. It measures 69cm wide and 46cm long.
Langdale, black and white
Photographer: Fiona J Sperryn
This bold hanging is one of three inspired by the Langdale valley in the Lake District. Original drawings were layered and translated into digital files and the piece was then carefully hand-woven on a jacquard loom. It has been framed to hang in a contemporary black frame, which measures 86cm wide by 42cm long.
