When I began my woodcarving business in 1985, with Enterprise Allowance Scheme support, carving dishes and bowls became a major focus.
Fish shapes and leaf shapes provide handles with their tails and stalks. While their functional purpose is always important, they are also vehicles for me to explore shape, form, textures, and colours. The woods I use are lime, sycamore, ash, beech and oak. Usually painted with watercolour and finished with acrylic varnish, they are also finished with oils.
