About this project

A series of moon-vases which are thrown on the wheel, then carved rather than turned to reveal a slightly organic shape. Often texture is revealed first by carving away, then by adding more clay. Decorated with layers of slips, oxides, glazes and natural ash.

White carved moon-vase

Moon-vase thrown on the wheel and hand carved, in white stoneware and porcelain mixed clay. Layers of white glazes. Fired to 1260 C.
Black Moon-vase

Moon-vase made from black stoneware clay. Thrown on the wheel, hand-carved and textured, with layers of slips, oxides and glazes. Fired to 1250C.
Soft Moon-vase

Moon-vase thrown on the wheel from white stoneware clay, then hand-carved and textured. Layers of slips, oxides, glazes and natural ash. Fired to 1260C.
