About this project

The Little Globe Co was inspired by 18th century Pocket Globes. Described by the Science Museum as ‘Gentleman’s Novelties’, these tiny globes were highly detailed miniature worlds that could literally be held in one hand.  Artist and cartographer Loraine has been making maps from clay for over 25 years, and has now developed a range of tiny topographic globes at a scale of 1:170 million, combining the beauty of maps with the permanence of porcelain for modern collectors.
