About this project

A retrospective exhibition by 16 members of STAR* (Scottish Tapestry Artists Regrouped) with work from the 1960s up to the present, including tapestries from CAC collection; selected and organised by STAR* led by Maureen Hodge with Ian O’ Riordan CAC Director. The exhibitors were all graduates of Tapestry Dept at Edinburgh College of Art and many had connections with the Edinburgh Tapestry Company.

gobelin tapestry, star* retrospective



Requiem 1977

A tapestry inspired by a poem by Anna Ahkmatova and given to the City Art Centre Collection by Contemporary Arts Society. It consists of two strips of writing in a formulised alphabet, each seven feet by one and a half inches hung one above the other.
Remember 2005 - (6ft 5in x five ft)

I use lettering in my tapestry both as a decorative device but also to engage the viewer. This reads “Remember, in the mirror of memory, a sunburnt girl with daisies in her hair, under French skies, before the legions left for Africa
