SOLD OUT: Hey Clay! At New Mills School | High Peak

Botanical Ceramics

Join local artist Jade Alana Ashton for a two hour workshop where you'll get the opportunity to work with paper-clay and plants, including creating your own unique clay plant pocket and sgraffito tile! Using flora from the School grounds you will impress a selection into porcelain paper-clay to create plant pockets. Next you'll be introduced to a decoration technique called Sgraffito (where coloured slip is removed to reveal the original clay underneath) to create your own botanical-inspired tile. All clay work made on the day will be fired at a later date (free of charge), and arranged to be collected at a convenient time.

Jade Alana Ashton is ceramicist who hand-builds with all forms of paper-clay; her practice revolves around concerns and issues of the environment and biodiversity. She delivers her clay and mixed-media workshops to schools, art galleries and museums, to encourage participation in, and care for, the environment. She is currently artist-in-residence at New Mills School, with her on-going Arts Council England funded project “Wild about Ceramics”.
