Showcasing British craft in South Korea
For the second year running Crafts Council participated in the Craft Trend fair in Soeul, 17-21 December 2014. Building on the success of our 2013 presentation of a pop-up show reel of British craft, we exhibited an edit of Raw Craft; a Crafts Council touring exhibition. The work of 4 makers drawn from our Collection was selected for display: Fabien Capello, Max Lamb, Seongyong Lee and Peter Marigold.
Each of these makers work within traditional workshop culture using modest materials and a very hands on approach to making and prototyping. Their work is simple yet intelligent and with a high quality of finish but each embodying or retaining an element of raw-ness.
The Raw Craft display was accompanied by subtitled film of each maker and a slide show presentation about the work of the Crafts Council more generally.
During the Craft Trend fair Crafts Council’s Executive Director, Rosy Greenlees, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with President Choi of the Korean Craft and Design Foundation affirming our shared intention to seek future collaborative opportunities.
Rosy Greenlees also participated in a panel session examining the status of contemporary craft practice whilst Keeper of Collections, Christina McGregor presented the Raw Craft display to a number of invited VIP guests.
