A STILL FROM A NEW FILM OF HARRIET VINE AT WORK BY ALICE MASTERS

Misshapes: the making of Tatty Devine

Tatty Devine's founders Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine set up a market stall in Spitafields Market in the mid 1990's. Together they challenged jewellery conventions and in 2001 a trip to New York led them to discover laser cut acrylic. At that point a disruptive technology laser cutting unleashed a whole new set of creative possibilities and ideas.

On their return to the UK they invested in a laser cutting machine, going on to create personality-packed jewellery much loved and still culturally relevant 20 years on.

Their work and collaborations have become markers of the time they were made in. Tatty Devine has always worked closely with musicians, artists, designers and brands from Gilbert and George to Belle and Sebastian - all people they feel a connection to. Creativity, self-expression and hand making are at the heart of everything they do.

This exhibition is the first retrospective of Tatty Devine and will explore entrepreneurship, innovative British making and the power of creativity. Jewellery, sketchbooks, photos and flyers alongside two newly commissioned films will all tell the story of this creative duo.

The exhibition launches at the Lethaby Gallery at Central Saint Martins, London, before starting a nationwide tour.

Great and Small: crafted creatures

Now available for hire!

Animals have been represented in craft for as long as humans have been making, shaping and creating decorative objects. Great and Small encourages children and families to explore our age-old fascination with all creatures great and small through over 30 objects selected from the Crafts Council Collection.

Featuring works in clay, wood, metal, glass and textiles, the exhibition engages young minds with contemporary craft by introducing them to the many ways in which the natural world has inspired makers and the materials and techniques they have used to depict it.

Makers include: Kate Malone, Howard Raybould, Angus Suttie, Susanna Heron, Katharine Morling, Sam Smith, Jon Mills and many more. Engaging exhibition design by Mentsen takes young people on a journey through the animal kingdom and the accompanying learning resources encourage them to express their own creativity.

Great & Small is a Crafts Council Touring Exhibiton developed in partnership with Broadway Gallery and curated by Laura Dennis.

Available to hire from June 2019. Find more information here
