Join the Crafts Council and Yinka Ilori on Friday 9 July from 9:30am - 4pm to create, collaborate and risk-take through a series of CPD workshops.
The Crafts Council is proud to announce a first of its kind Craft School challenge for primary and secondary teachers wishing to engage their students with craft thinking and making. Created in collaboration with multi-disciplinary UK artist and Crafts Council trustee Yinka Ilori, the nationwide challenge will celebrate three vital themes; Play, Storytelling and Empowerment.
Ahead of the challenge launch in mid-July, teachers throughout the country are invited to take part in an array of interactive online sessions led by expert practitioners. Each make-along workshop has been carefully designed to suit key stages and cross curricular activity, helping you develop new skills and imaginative approaches to take back to the classroom. This is also a fantastic opportunity to meet and reconnect with peers whilst hearing from inspirational speakers on current learning themes.
Once we launch the challenge in September, schools will be supported with films, toolkits, online CPD events and support from Crafts Council and our education partners. Winners from each key stage will be selected by an expert panel – with prizes giving and celebration happening at the Crafts Council Gallery spring 2022.
The online CPD event will conclude with a conversation between Yinka Ilori and his past school teacher, as they reflect on the school projects and mentors that supercharged his path to creative success. Yinka Ilori is a London based multidisciplinary artist who specialises in storytelling by fusing his British and Nigerian heritage to imagine new relationships between form and function in contemporary design. From up-cycling vintage furniture to designing large-scale sculpture for Somerset House and Pinterest, his eye-catching installs are sure to make you and your students smile.
Two ticket options are available to book:
- General admission - £3.00 administration fee
- General admission and material play pack - £10.00
The play pack will include materials designed to help you on your crafting journey throughout the event. Attendees will be able to take part in all activities without purchasing an official material pack.
