Artist Craftsmen

Arundel, West Sussex

visual arts, handwoven tapestry, textiles

Construction is central to my practice. Swailes creates handwoven tapestries, wall based and sculptural. The materials chosen inform the shape and form of the piece. The palette. of traditional and newly created techniques. The materials are specific to each series, repetition creates these minimal works. In 2016 Swailes was awarded a Theo Moorman Award for Weaving to support the making of the series Glyphs and Loops. Swailes is a selected member of Contemporary Applied Arts.
