Line Nilsen is a Norwegian designer, textile artist and hand weaver based in Nottingham. Her practice centres around craft and design, exploring material, colour and process to create contemporary textile work. Nilsen’s hand-woven artwork is an emotional response to the arctic landscape in which she grew up, where the extreme absence and presence of light throughout the seasons have a strong influence on the mind and body. The two series presented at Collect Open are a continuation of earlier works, pushing techniques and scale further. The works are hand-dyed and hand-painted prior to weaving on a 16-shaft mechanical floor loom, using artisanal techniques and mixed materials to achieve a contemporary body of woven textile art.
