Ex Staseis. Attempts at the Representation of Liberty
Group exhibition, Tinos, Greece. Portrait of Manto Mavrogenous (1796-1848), an emancipated woman who with her actions gave everything for the struggle of the delivery of Greece from the Ottoman Empire. The face of the heroine becomes the epicentre of an installation, where the gaze of the sitter turns beyond the boundary of the plate towards the broader concept of liberty. Numerous blue eyes, painted on shards of clay, surround her in a circle making her the centre of their attention.
