Alex O’Connor came to silversmithing from a background in Fine Art and Sculpture. Accordingly, her silverware merges a tacit understanding of aesthetic balance, form, visual weight and composition with the specific discipline of contemporary craft.
Vessels are a constant theme in her work, not as objects for material use but for their contemplative or meditative capacity. Each piece, with its inherent suggestion of containment, seeks hold meaning, memory or a sense of place.
