Fiona Rutherford

Textile Artist

Midlothian, Scotland

My tapestries play with space and colour to capture moods and connections, the fragments of stories, poems and songs. Weaving with cotton and linen yarns my colour palate moves from the vibrant and playful to the quietly contemplative. I often weave in strips that bring together seemingly unconnected elements. The edges tapering or uneven. It is the edge or fragment of something else. Selvedges and stitching make reference to the human history held in cloth.
