Coast Collection
A collection of scarves and textiles for the home inspired by the North Yorkshire coast around Staithes. Woven in Lambswool, cotton and merino, pieces focus on movement of the fabric, enhanced by drafts that evoke waves and the sea. This coastline inspires most of my work, creating memories. The ever-changing light, the colours of the sea, the cliffs, the jumble of rooftops, this collection is my ode to Yorkshire.
Hem: Handwoven
Hope Valley, England
Using my favourite Jämtlandsväv draft and a Fibonacci gradient warp to create colour and movement of the sea.
woven in a classic herringbone twill in fine mill end merino. Inspired by the depth of colour in the North Sea
Woven entirely from mill end yarn this blanket scarf uses fine golden silk to catch the light. The tassels suggest the lures and the block sequence and colour reflect the changing depth of the sea when fishing from a boat beyond the harbour walls.
Inspired by the distinctive colour palette of this North Yorkshire fishing village, this wrap scarf is the village in microcosm.
Jämtlandsväv wave on a Fibonacci gradient warp and a clasped weft
Woven in lambswool blending 10 shades of the North Sea in warp and weft to render every available shade of the ever-changing ocean. The concrete sea defences that protect Staithes are suggested in the grey squares using a Donegal fleck yarn for texture.
Hand woven in a fine merino wool in Jämtlandsväv on a Fibonacci gradient warp. Part of the Artist Support Pledge exhibition at Hastings Contemporary.
Inspired by the wake of a fishing boat, Viyage No1 is handwoven Jämtlandsväv on a Fibonacci gradient warp and a gold silk weft.
