Savu Collection
Inspired by the Finnish tradition of smoke fired sauna -Savusauna- this collection of work is decorated entirely by smoke and flame.
The slip cast white earthenware pieces are smoke fired, a process which involves placing the pieces in a container filled with a mix of sawdust, leaves and seaweed and setting fire to the top. The smoke, minerals and wood resin penetrate the clay body leaving unique patterns on each piece. The work is then sealed with beeswax and hand polished to a high sheen.
