Woven altar Frontal for the Church of St Philip and St James, York

I was approached to design and weave an alter frontal for The Church of St Philip and St James in Clifton, York UK. This was commissioned to help celebrate the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Church. The design of the woven textile is a simple gradation of pale and neutral shades, darker at the edges and lighter in the middle to represent “Light from Darkness”. The weaving is made with a linen warp and wool weft. There is a very fine gold thread incorporated for added visual interest.

The woven altar frontal was made with wool and linen using natural coloured yarns to compliment the peaceful sanctuary of the church.
