My artwork reflects my passion for experimentation with daily materials, mainly paper, exploring their potential and unique properties. I also incorporate traditional Japanese craft techniques, combining them with digital technology. The focus is the idea of life cycles in Japanese culture, also addressing Western models of exploration of materiality. By exploring the possibility of materials and their unique properties, I allow the materials to speak and embrace natural formed abstraction.

Focus:
exploring the possibility of materials and incorporating craft techniques and digital technology.

Révélations-International Biennial of Crafts and Creation

05 -11th Jun 2023

Held every two years, Révélations is the not-to-be-missed event that celebrates French and international creation. Conceived and created by Ateliers d'Art de France, a professional organisation representing the 281 French fine crafts, the biennial is the major economic event of the sector. For this 6th edition, Revelations has chosen an aerial work, created by the Japanese multidisciplinary artist Kuniko Maeda, whose studio is in London. This work embodies the international contemporary creation in the heart of the biennial.

Crafts Council Panel on Sustainability in Craft @New Designers

Thursday 29 June 2023 18:00 - 19:00

Hosted by Crafts Council, this panel chaired by Debika Ray brings together three makers: textile artist Isabel Fletcher, furniture maker Will James, Knot Design, and paper/leather artist Kuniko Maeda who will discuss the motivations, barriers and changes that could be made around sustainability. The conversation will also draw in moments to reflect on cost of living, mental health and well-being, and material innovations. There will be an opportunity to meet and network with Crafts Council and the makers after the talk as part of New Designers Thursday Late session.
