Portland Vase
Described by Josiah Wedgwood as his ‘greatest achievement’, it took thousands of tests to recreate the 1st century BC cameo glass vase. Recreating beautiful forms is a recurring thread in ceramic traditions and Laura is intrigued by the way forms are interpreted and updated through history. Thrown in coloured porcelain, each piece is carefully turned to reveal the precise shape. The looped handles are carefully manipulated before joining, giving each Portland vase has its own character.
