Katharine Swailes

Artist tapestry weaver

Arundel, West Sussex

handwoven tapestry, textiles, abstract

£500 — £20000

Construction and materials are central to my practice I create handwoven tapestries, abstract, wall based and sculptural. The materials chosen inform the shape of the piece. A mix of of traditional and newly created techniques are used. I work with a minimal palette of materials and techniques to create the works. In 2016 Swailes was awarded a Theo Moorman Award for Weaving to support the making of the multiple series Glyphs and Loops. Swailes is a selected member of Contemporary Applied Arts.
