Crafts CouncilDirectorySurinder Warboys myglassroom.comEast Nave Window‘ Fressingfield Church, Suffolk. Completed 2022AboutRowland with his background in art and physics produced the inimitable and flowing watercolour design, which I then had the complex challenge of translating into stained glass. Colours in glass tend to be so much stronger to those of watercolours, so weighing one colour against another for subtle shifts in strength and compatibility required rigour. With this window being so high up, one would never see it at close quarters, we wanted to maximise on engagement with the surroundings, so the purity and strength of colour became crucial for the transmitted light to convey a poetic resonance. The window sits in the recessed east window of the nave, above a magnificent forty-foot high archway, like a jewel encrusted nest. The streams of coloured light, enhancing the interior space, move round inside, as the earth spins and orbits the sun.
