Description
Craft Hub is a European project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme focused on Craft in the context of cultural heritage and its continuing relevance in contemporary practice.
Just to reassure everyone, there is no cost to this, and makers can link to their own online presence. The platform and social media channels reach a wide (and growing) international audience. Craft Hub activities involve investigating and documenting craft skills and processes; their differing application in creative practice across Europe; and questions of cultural specificity and individual motivations of practitioners. This will be addressed through a comprehensive and exciting program to allow the creation of new craft work and experimental investigations into process and material supported by transnational maker residencies, outreach and CPD workshops, a festival, a touring exhibitions and conference.
The Craft Hub Project is creating a Material Library, a searchable data-base of craft samples in digital and physical form that demonstrate the different material effects that are achievable through different craft processes and materials. The library will be a key resource for training and education about various craft processes and materials.
In its physical form these craft samples can be used as an educational, research and public outreach resource – shared with an audience encouraging touch, handling and interaction. In its digital form, the library will be open access and searchable by material, process, maker and other filters. Its audience is broad, from makers interested in new techniques, processes and materials; to architects, interior designers and collectors looking for new makers to commission. In this way, the library allows makers to expand their audience and market.
