Contract and Hours
Fixed term until April 2026. 0.8 - part time, 29 hours / 4 days per week.*

A typical working day is 9.15-5.30pm, including a lunch break (unpaid). Some remote working with presence in the office or gallery between 2-3 days per week, worked between Monday to Friday (office / gallery days to be confirmed).

*Crafts Council aims to support flexible working and part time arrangements where it is appropriate for the role.

Salary
£20,886 gross per annum based on part time working, 4 days per week (£26,108 gross full-time equivalent).

Location
Crafts Council Office and Gallery is based on the Pentonville Road in Islington, London, with some hybrid / home working.

Period of role
Fixed term until April 2026. To commence as soon as possible from July 2025 onwards.

Reporting to
Senior Collections and Programme Manager.

Introduction to the Role

We are seeking a Collections Coordinator to join the Crafts Council on a fixed-term, part-time contract until April 2026. This role in the Public Programmes team supports the development and delivery of Craft for the People, a major project supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund to enhance access to Crafts Council Collections.

Reporting to the Senior Exhibitions and Collections Manager, this role will coordinate public and partner access to the newly renovated collections store onsite at Crafts Council Head Quarters in Islington, ensuring the store Is well managed, for both people and artworks. You will maintain project schedules and support a Collection Consultant in organising workshops and evaluations with partner organisations Craft UK, Young Craft Citizens and The National Festival of Making. The coordinator will carry out documentation, care and conservation related tasks, and coordinate loans.

This is a dynamic and hands-on role which involves working across the organisation and beyond to deliver and communicate best practice in collection coordination.

About You

You will have a passion for craft and collections and have some prior experience in working with a Collection Management System,
You will be familiar with object handling, transportation and packing carrying out documentation, and basic preservation processes,
You will be a confident administrator with excellent IT skills,
You should be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team,
You should be a clear communicator ensuring that collection information is disseminated and adhered to by all stakeholders.

Main Duties

Under the supervision of the Senior Collections and Programme Manager and in collaboration with Craft for the People project partners, you will:

Support access to Crafts Council Collections through managing bookings to the collection store and running the monthly public store tour
Maintain, develop and ensure quality control of object documentation using Collections Management System MuseumIndex+
Share the collection through collaborations with the Communications team to develop rich and engaging content on social media, websites and newsletters
Support the coordination of loans, preparing entry and exit forms, arranging object transportation, and loan agreements, where needed
Assist in the management of the collections store space by ensuring Collections Trust Benchmarks are met maintaining environmental monitoring, pest management, security and disaster planning standards
Support the newly formed Collections Advisory Committee, preparing presentations and reports
Assist in monitoring and responding to enquiries sent to the Public Programmes inbox
Assist with the onboarding and supervision of Young Craft Citizen Placements, ensuring their experiences are enriching and that tasks are carried out accurately according to project timelines and briefs
Support the preparation of reports for the project funder and Crafts Council Senior Management Team
Support the development of an evaluation framework for Craft for the People
Support the development of the Collection archive, coordinating logistics, managing volunteers
Carryout tasks relating to care of collection objects such as object research, condition checking and packing, auditing and photography, coordinate conservation working with external specialists where required

Undertake any other relevant tasks, including ad hoc duties to assist other staff working in the Public Programmes team as required.
