Craftspace are inviting applications for two paid exhibition invigilator roles for our pop up exhibition ‘Dorcas Stories from the Front Room, textile narratives then and now’ taking place at the Mailbox Birmingham from 23 September to 29 October.
We are seeking people who enjoy interacting with the visiting public and recognise the value of arts in celebrating heritage, cultural identities and its role in enriching our sense of community belonging.
Fee: £10.90 per hour (living wage)
Dorcas Stories from the Front Room is a pop up exhibition at the Mailbox in Birmingham celebrating 75 years of Windrush through the lens of textile craft and fashion.
Role Description Duties: Be a responsible keyholder for the shop unit. Open up and close the exhibition Weds-Sun at the allocated times, arriving half an hour before public visiting time with half an hour to close the exhibition at the end of the day. Switch on any exhibits that require it and tidy up the space, replenish any paperwork ready for the day. Welcome visitors into the space, encourage them to engage in free creative activity, encourage them to give feedback, conduct visitor surveys and assist with workshops and events in the space. Safeguard the exhibits from touching and theft.
Required skills: Keen interest in exhibitions, culture, arts & heritage. Good interpersonal/people skills and customer care. An inclusive and equitable attitude and behaviour towards others. Organised, reliable, practical, flexible and enthusiastic. Able to travel into Birmingham city centre.
Location and Timing Venue: The Mailbox, Level 2, 7 Commercial Street, Birmingham, B1 1RS
Hours: Wed – Sun, 12.30 – 6.30pm (public opening hours 1 – 6pm)
Dates: 23 September to 29 October with briefing session on Friday 22 September.
