Description
We are seeking someone to teach sewing, supporting learners to using patterns and machines, but we are open to applications across all different textile-based arts and crafts. The tutor should have a background in textile-based crafts (self-taught or through qualified education) with experience in, and enthusiasm for, delivering workshops to adults.
Workshops run as either 8-week, 4-week or one-off courses in different arts and crafts, with participants learning basic techniques or deepening their knowledge. Generally, 8-week and 4-week workshops take place on Thursday evenings during term-time, lasting around 2.5hrs – these are likely to expand to include another evening later in the year. Group sizes are limited to 6-10 participants depending on the space required for the activity. Tutors will need to provide a lesson plan for the duration of the course (template will be supplied). The course should produce a piece of work which participants can take home.
The workshop room is equipped with a variety of sewing machines and applicants should be familiar, or be able to make themselves familiar, with a range of machines (students often wish to bring their own). For sewing projects, student will often supply their own material/pattern etc. However, Rowan has a a large scrap store which can be made available for smaller projects.
