Ceramic artists Andrés Monzón-Aguirre and Anina Major discuss fine art, craft and culture at large with Crafts deputy editor Isabella Smith

Featuring work by Magdalene Odundo, Jennifer Lee, Peter Collingwood and Hans Coper, A Passion for Form (28 July – 27 August 2022) at Maximillian William in London was the first public exhibition of ceramic and fibre art owned by collector Brian Harding.

Harding was motivated to open his collection to the public for the first time to ensure a new generation of makers could engage with the work. To mark the occasion, Crafts worked with the gallery to bring together two ceramic artists (a third, Zizipho Poswa, experienced a powercut so was unable to appear) for a Zoom conversation with Crafts' deputy editor Isabella Smith.

What unites ceramic artists Andrés Monzón-Aguirre and Anina Major is their engagement with culture and concepts beyond fine art and craft. Taking artists and themes from A Passion for Form as a starting point, they reflected on their own making practises in relation to a broader tradition of craft.
