In July, the UK woke up to the first Labour government in 15 years. Ahead of the party's first conference, Crafts held an online discussion that explored how public policy makers can help the craft sector thrive, and what the Crafts Council can do in support.
The talk was chaired by Crafts Council’s executive director Natalie Melton, who was joined by textile artist James Fox (known for stitching political commentary into his embroidered artworks); artist, writer and lecturer Charlotte Warne Thomas (whose research often centres on artists pay, working conditions and class barriers); Han Ates (founder of craft denim brand Blackhorse Lane Ateliers); and Grace Lee, (an interdisciplinary artist and scenography maker).
This panel is the first in a new series of Crafts talks and articles called Making It, which focuses on the future of the craft sector and professional practice – read our newsletter or follow us on Instagram, Facebook and X to stay in-the-know about upcoming events.
