In support of Mental Health Awareness Week, a large-scale interactive 3D butterfly display will be built in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.
Priors Park Neighbourhood Project (PPNP) invite the local public to join in creating a large-scale community sculpture from repurposed materials, situated between the local school and family/children's centre.
PPNP receive donations from various organisations across Gloucestershire, including five boxes of multi-coloured plastic travel passports. Rather than throw stock away, PPNP have decided to repurpose the materials. Working together, attendees can cut out flower petals from the plastic passports and arrange them in such way that when up close the viewer sees a sea of flowers but from across the road they will see the image of a butterfly to show how perspectives can have an impact on how we 'see' things and how a simple change of view can reveal new possibilities.
The display will bring colour and vibrancy to the area, pleasing both passers-by and residents who live across the road — many of which have been severely affected by the events of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PPNP hope this creative display will serve as a reminder of hope and joy, symbolising freedom and new possibilities for the community, despite a traumatic year.
