Over 4 Saturdays in November learn how to find, process and make your own ceramic glazes from found materials.
Ever wanted to make glazes from completely foraged materials? Over 4 Saturdays artist Phil Root will guide you in exploring materials we can gather from the environment around us.
This course also covers the essentials of glaze chemistry which will help you develop glazes using wood ash, local clay, egg shell, sand and rust all collected from around Pothole! The workshop will take place at Pothole, with some time spent foraging for glaze ingredients in the woods nearby. Suitable for complete beginners or more experienced potters.
Course plan:
Week 1 – Foraging walk around Highgate for materials, making test tiles Week 2 – Processing our gathered materials
Week 3 – Glaze theory and glaze testing
Week 4 - Results and discussion with walk / photoshoot in Highgate woods
