This workshop is designed to introduce total beginners and curious knitters to knitting, using only household items. We will use pencils as knitting needles and find materials for yarn from our homes, allowing found materials to lead the process!
Come and discover what you can make with everyday items from home with Maija from Almaborealis. Learn to knit in a fun, free and creative way, using household items readily available to all. In this workshop we will use pencils as knitting needles, and as yarn, we'll use plastic bags, old jersey leggings and t-shirts or even old juice cartons. Anyone can take part, and everyone is welcome. We will explore knitting in a playful way, without a pre-conceived idea of the end product, but rather allowing the materials and the process to lead us along the way whilst mixing materials in a creative way. Each 2 hour workshop will cover: The selection of materials, making yarn ready for knitting, preparing the pencils for knitting, casting on and off, and knitting and pearling in between. A document outlining the preparation of yarn and materials list will be sent out to participants prior to the event.

These workshops are held to join the celebration of creativity through the Crafts Council's Hey Craft! - national festival of craft participation. Craft activities are calming and can have a relaxing effect on our minds through their repetitive, meditative nature, allowing us a safe space to explore our inner selves and express creatively.
