Discover heritage craft as you learn how to sew your own Dorset button posy brooch with Vikki of Mae Kandoo.
Dorset buttons originated in the 17th Century and quickly become a 'must have' accessory for the rich. As a cottage industry craft, the production of Dorset buttons supported whole communities until the mid 19th Century. In the 1940's, the need to Make Do and Mend saw Dorset Buttons being used to re-vamp cardigans and as brooches to accessorize frequently worn dresses.
Nowadays the posy brooch can be worn as a unique, vintage style accessory and the slow process of hand embroidery has proven associations with wellbeing. This workshop will guide you through the process of hand-stitching, helping you unwind as you focus on the task in hand.
You'll be guided through a step-by-step live online workshop with a worksheet available to download. Workshop host, Vikki of Mae Kandoo will draw upon a wealth of experience having lead wellbeing craft workshops with veterans through Help for Heroes and a range of community projects.
